Silesian School of Instructors
The Silesian School of Instructors "Gniazdo" is an independent training centre run since 2000 by the Foundation For People Who Need Help "Gniazdo" in Katowice. The school teaches students how to use group counselling methods in childcare, therapy and education.
Our courses are addressed to the people who are professionally interested in working with groups (psychologist, pedagogues, teachers, social workers, voluntary workers of aid organisations and institutions etc.). we give four types of training sessions:
- training of instructors - basic group
- training of instructors - advanced group
- training of supervisors
- thematic workshops
We give the first three courses together with
Polish Psychological Association. In terms of syllabus, they are tailored to the requirements set for instructors recommended by the Association, although the School doe snot issue letters of recommendation.

Lectures will start in September 2007.
There is also a Private Psychological Education Centre in place at the School, where the teachers attending our courses receive the certificates recognised for the purpose of professional promotion.
School staff comprises experienced instructors and supervisors recommended by the
Polish Psychological Association.
The Silesian School of Instructors "Gniazdo" is managed by Maria John-Borys (PhD in the humanities). The deputy head for organisational matters is Katarzyna Cholewa, MA. The team is composed of: Hanna Przybyła-Basista (PhD), Jadwiga Kristman (MA), Maria Szatanik (MA), Teresa Jadczak-Szumiło (MA), Krzysztof Troczyński (MA) and Ryszard Borys (MA). All School tutors (for profiles see below) have instructor's or supervisor's recommendations of the Polish Psychological Association. Other instructors and supervisors will also be invited to give some training and workshops.

- Maria John-Borys (PhD in the humanities) (13) - School Head
Since 1970 academic teacher at the Silesian University in Katowice; head of the Child and Youth Clinic and Education Psychology Department and Post-graduate Child and Youth Behavioural Disorder Psychocorrection Studies. Experienced in individual and group psychotherapy for people suffering from neurosis thanks to co-operation with heath care units; graduate of a 2-year psychotherapy course at the Post-graduate Medical Education Centre. In the years 1986-1994, head of the Counselling Department in Katowice - she did psychotherapy for the people in emotional crisis and counselling for married couples and families. She is the author of the programme for day-care centres of the Council Welfare Centre in Katowice; consultant to many groups helping families. As regards training, she mainly co-operates with the Centre for Counselling Research and Service of the Polish Psychological Association, welfare and education centres and the Social Politics School in Bielsko. Supervisor of numerous group counselling training sessions and workshops. Member of the European Health Psychology Society.
- Teresa Jadczak-Szumiło (MA) (195)
Pedagogue, graduate (with distinction) of the Post-graduate Staff Management Studies at the College of Social Psychology. She runs training sessions and workshops devoted to communication, interpersonal and childcare skills, fairy tale in sociotherapy, diagnosis and work in sociotherapy and fast learning techniques. As far as management is concerned, she gives training on job and appraisal interview, and also coaching. As an independent consultant, she makes analyses of the systemic development of company along with the diagnosis of requisite changes in staff management.
- Krzysztof Troczyński (MA) (133)
Psychologist and therapist at the Specialist Family Clinic in Katowice. Active in counselling and education for 17 years. Author of many educational programmes. He runs training sessions and workshops mainly for various education centres; he also works in private psychotherapy practice.
- Katarzyna Cholewa (MA) (258)
Pedagogue, the president of the Foundation For People Who Need Help "Gniazdo" in Katowice. She gives psychological training sessions and workshops devoted to work with children from dysfunctional families. Consultant for sociotherapeutic day-care centre teams.
- Maria Szatanik (MA) (172)
Psychologist, deputy head of the Specialist Psychology and Pedagogy Clinic in Katowice. She runs training sessions and workshops for teachers and school pedagogues and does family counselling for children with emotional disorders.
- Hanna Przybyła-Basista (PhD in the humanities) (121)
Psychologist, academic teacher (Psychology Institute of the Silesian University). Deputy head of Post-graduate Child and Youth Behavioural Disorder Psychocorrection Studies. She carries out a training and research programme on family mediation. She works in private psychotherapy practice.
- Ryszard Borys (MA) (53)
Clinical psychologist. Worked both in health care, industry and education sectors and in non-governmental organisations. A freelancer for the time being (business "Ryszard Borys - Pracownia Psychologiczna"). Experienced in individual and group psychotherapy of neurosis, family therapy and sociotherapy. He has been giving group training since 1978. He tutored for more than 7,500 hours health care and school employees, welfare workers, councillors, public administration employees, non-governmental organisations and voluntary workers as well as companies and business circles. His main areas comprise: sociotherapy, optimisation of personal relationships, HR management and negotiations. He co-operates with the Non-governmental Organisation Support Association "Most" in Katowice, the Walerian Pańko Local Government Training Centre in Katowice and the Social Policy School in Bielsko-Biała.
